Jamie Carano Nordenström, is a candidate for Town Board in Hillsdale, NY. A full-time resident of Hillsdale, she moved to the area with her husband after many years together as international consultants. Jamie is a consultant specializing in product management and private label brand development. She began her career in China where, as a recent management program graduate of the Parsons School of Design, she represented manufacturers and trading companies in their relationships with many of the largest retailers across North America, Europe, and the Middle East. She has traveled extensively throughout the US, Europe, China, Southeast Asia, and India, investing in, and developing new capabilities in diverse communities and emerging manufacturing markets. Her work today is focused on sustainable approaches to product development and retail supply chain logistics.

Jamie grew up along the Appalachian Trail in rural Garrison, New York, and is dedicated to local civic engagement, primarily related to environmental and land use issues in Columbia County and the Hudson Valley. Recently, she led community organization in support of neighbors to a gas station development project, successfully advocating for the remediation of extensive legacy petroleum contamination in the hamlet of Craryville. She serves on the Board of Trustees of the Olana Partnership and the Board of Directors of the Friends of Taconic State Park. She looks forward to planning related to the Harlem Valley Rail Trail extension through the Hillsdale hamlet. Privately, Jamie and her husband have advocated for protection of the headwaters of the Taghkanic Creek, its riparian buffer and ridgeline forest connectivity. On any weekend, you will find Jamie and her husband working on a forest regeneration project at their property as a small part of these community-led efforts.

Upon moving to Hillsdale, she undertook the restoration of the nineteenth century farmstead known as Peabody Corners. She has performed extensive restorations to a colonial barn that she often opens to community events and local organization fundraisers. These activities are very much inspired by time spent at her husband’s family dairy farmstead in Hälsingland, Sweden, which dates to the 14th Century, and is near to a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Jamie believes in a municipality’s responsibility to foster public participation and to uphold procedural consistency and fairness. She looks forward to work with the Hillsdale community to develop active listening and feedback mechanisms to improve representation on the Town Board. She encourages those with ideas and concerns to reach out to her directly.

Any registered Democratic may appear on the ballot by submission of signatured petitions to the Columbia County Board of Elections. The HDC is a duly constituted committee of the CCDC and registered as such with New York State Board of Elections Campaign Finance Unit.

The next election for Hillsdale Democratic Committee Members (ED1 and ED2) will be on Primary Day, June 2025. Any registered Democrat may submit petition signatures to the CC Board of Elections prior to the next deadline submission in March of 2025.

The Hillsdale Democrats is a political club organizing for registered Democrats and Democratic candidates in Hillsdale, NY. Officers are appointed to a 1 year term, expiring 12/31/2024 or the date of the 2024 Annual Meeting, by a vote of members of the Hillsdale Democrats present at the Annual Meeting (7/15/2023). Registered Democrats pay $25 annual dues to maintain membership status and Annual Meeting voting rights.
